Evaluation Services
For Children 3–5
We:
- Help families negotiate the referral and assessment process
- Arrange for an evaluation
- Provide appropriate assistance to children who may be experiencing difficulties
- Guide families in obtaining an understanding of a child’s strengths and the areas in which he or she may benefit from support
- Help families in obtaining services
- Inform families of their rights under the law
Who Can be Evaluated?
All children between three and five years of age who are showing signs of delayed development are eligible to be evaluated. Evaluations are conducted to help parents determine the type and extent of delays and are used in planning appropriate educational interventions. Evaluations are conducted at convenient locations throughout New York City.
What Does an Evaluation Include?
- Family history and assessment of needs as they relate to the child
- Developmental assessment (a psychological and / or educational evaluation)
- Speech and language, occupational and / or physical therapy evaluations, as necessary. Evaluations are in the child’s / family’s primary language. All services are provided at no direct cost to the family. All evaluations are kept strictly confidential
