                    Internship Descriptions              
All Educational Services Interns will be required to:
  Attend AHRC's OSHA training
  Have medical clearance
  Be fingerprinted
  Have state clearance

Internship: PRESCHOOL TEACHER INTERNS
Interns Will: Take part in implementing IEP's and the goals discussed at the child study team meetings; Work with the teachers in developing lesson and unit plans and and later take the lead in developing plans and in presenting lessons; Employ educational strategies that are appropriate tot he type and degree of the developmental disability of the students
 
Internship: SOCIAL WORK INTERNS
Interns Will: Work with the team to assist the students' families in obtaining necessary services and in incorporating educational and behavioral goals into family life; Facilitate parent support groups and parent training sessions; Work with individual parents, and provide outreach to families that are difficult to engage; Represent the families' needs and concerns to the child study team; Conduct interviews to update social histories and conduct initial social history interviews; Interns may facilitate play therapy with the students
 
Internship: SPECIAL EDUCATION INTERNSHIPS -
ELEMENTARY, MIDDLE & HIGH SCHOOL TEACHERS
Interns Will: Conduct discrete trials using ABA and other similar teaching approaches; Provide academic or vocational instruction; Provide training in activities of daily living; Work with the teachers in developing lesson and unit plans and later taking the lead in developing and presenting lesson plans
Internship: MUSIC THERAPY INTERNS IN SPECIAL EDUCATION SCHOOLS
Interns will: Help integrate music into classroom lesson plans; Take the lead in presenting music based lesson; Assist staff in incorporating music into classroom activities; Work with groups and with individual children to help them use music to acquire the skills necessary for self regulation and emotional stability; Work with classes and groups to help students prepare musical presentations for graduation and special occasions; Conduct instructional groups for parents to help them integrate the strategies of music therapy into home life
 
Internship: ART THERAPIST INTERNS IN SPECIAL EDUCATION SCHOOLS
Interns will: Help to integrate art into lesson plans; Take the lead in presenting art based lessons; Help the staff to incorporate art into classroom activities; Work with groups and individual students to help them use art to acquire the skills necessary for self regulation and emotional stability; Work with groups and classes to help them prepare material for presentation; Conduct instructional groups for parents to help them incorporate the strategies of art therapy into home life
Internship: SCHOOL PSYCHOLOGY INTERNS
Interns will: Work with individual students and with groups of students on attaining IEP goals and the goals identified by the child study teams; Work with the psychologist, teachers, and therapists in developing effective classroom strategies; Assist in performing functional analyses and developing behavior plans; Maintain session notes; May have the opportunity to participate in and facilitate parent training sessions; May assist in the assessment of students who may need psychological services
 
Internship: SCHOOL SPEECH THERAPY INTERNS
Interns will: Work with individual students and groups of students on achieving IEP goals; Work with the teachers and other members of the interdisciplinary teams in employing strategies that help the students maximize the gains made during therapy; Maintain session notes; Assist in the assessment of students who may need speech therapy; Maintain concise log notes; Take part in parent training sessions that focus on the development of speech and language
Internship: OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY INTERNS IN SPECIAL EDUCATION SCHOOLS
Interns will: Work with individual students and groups of students on achieving IEP goals; Work with the teachers and other members of the interdisciplinary teams in employing strategies that help the students maximize the gains made during therapy; Maintain session notes; Assist in the assessment of students who may need occupational therapy; Take part in parent training sessions that center on the development of fine motor skills
Internship: PHYSICAL THERAPY INTERNS IN SPECIAL EDUCATION SCHOOLS
Interns will: Work with individual students and groups of students on achieving IEP goals; Work with the teachers and other members of the interdisciplinary teams in employing strategies that help the students maximize the gains made during therapy; Maintain session notes; Assist in the assessment of students who may need physical therapy; Take part in parent training sessions that center on the development of gross motor skills
Internship: UNDERGRADUATE HUMAN SERVICES INTERNS IN SPECIAL EDUCATION SCHOOLS
Interns will: Assist the families in obtaining needed services; Work with the families in dealing with difficulties with bussing, completing USDA forms, and other required forms; Be in contact with families via the telephone and/or in person; Work with the interdisciplinary team on designated tasks; Complete and maintain records and files
