NY, NY. - Social services agency seeks Assistant Activity Specialist to provide extra assistance to individuals with physical and mental disabilities. Under direction of the Activity Specialist or Program Director, supervises activities designed to facilitate the intellectual, sensorimotor, and affective development of participants to maintain and improve participants' level of functioning. Tutor and assist consumers individually or in small groups to help them to master assignments and to reinforce learning concepts presented by the Activity Specialist or Program Director to maintain and/or improve manipulation, cognitive skills, socialization, personal hygiene skills, independence living skills, and mobility skills, while addressing deficits in self-direction. Instruct and monitor consumers in the use and care of equipment and materials to prevent injuries and damage. Carries through appropriate program plans on an individual and group basis. Assists in the development and implementation of established daily lesson plans, coordinate instructional efforts, assists in the development of the curriculum for the total program. Observe students' performance, and record relevant data to assess progress. Organize and supervise recreational activities to promote physical, mental, and social development. Assists in developing ongoing program plan for each client, based on functional assets and deficits and determined needs, integrating all clinical material available. Participates in regular reviews of goals established and met pertaining to individual program plans as required and appropriate.
