SERVICES - AUTISM SPECTRUM DISORDER

Individuals on the autism spectrum -- many of whom did not formally receive this diagnosis years ago – have always received services from AHRC. But this group of individuals is without question exponentially increasing. AHRC is committed to becoming a Center for Excellence in the area of service provision to individuals of all ages on the Autism Spectrum – from school age through adulthood.

Individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder are currently served in all the programs AHRC offers to individuals with other developmental disabilities. The individualized services approach allows for specialized techniques to be utilized in all AHRC programs to meet the unique needs of every individual. Applied Behavioral Analysis (ABA), Picture Exchange Communication Systems (PECS), Treatment and Education of Autistic and other related Communication Handicapped Children (TEAACH), other visual strategies and augmentative/alternative communication devices (AAC), Word/Sign, behavior management techniques and a variety of other evidence based approaches that have proven to be effective with individuals on the Spectrum, as well as individuals with other disabilities, are utilized in all AHRC programs. Additionally, providing services to individuals on the Spectrum in programs serving people with other developmental disabilities offers individuals on the Spectrum the opportunity to interact with individuals who may have different strengths than they do -- strengths in social/relationship and communication skills. Services Offered by AHRC New York City

AHRC offers a number of Autism Spectrum Disorder specific services for children from ages 18 months - 21 years that utilize Applied Behavioral Analysis (ABA) and the other evidence based methods of teaching. These specific offerings are available here.
