The Outdoor Adventure Club took their inaugural trip to Palisades Interstate Park

The first meeting of AHRC New York City’s Camping and Recreational Services Outdoor Adventure Club took place on Sunday, October 28th. Isaiah HendersonBrianna CarterJermaine Hawkins, and Michael Sparacino were joined by Emily HirstRecreation Supervisor, and Joe AntcliffCommunity Support Supervisor with Day Habilitation Without Walls, on a hike at Palisades Interstate Park. The sextet braved brisk temperatures as they enjoyed the freshly fallen foliage and wooded areas at the park, which straddles the border between New York and New Jersey.

Camping and Recreational Services has partnered with Youth Opportunities Program (YOP) to make this club possible. Emily and Joe completed a four-day outdoor leadership training session, certifying them to take young people on outdoor adventures. They are now able to borrow any equipment from YOP that the group would need to go on a hiking, camping, and/or backpacking excursion.

The Outdoor Adventure Club is excited to put on more trips in the future, especially as the weather begins to warm up in the spring. For more information, contact Emily.Hirst@ahrcnyc.org.
