NYSARC, Inc.’s Volunteer of the Year Award is presented to a chapter volunteer in recognition of their continued dedication, service, and advocacy on behalf of people who have intellectual and other developmental disabilities. We are proud to congratulate this year’s award winner, Dr. Marilyn Jaffe-Ruiz, AHRC New York City Board Member. Marilyn has served on the Board since 1984 and was Board President from 1997 to 1999. Her efforts created the Chapter’s first Sibling Committee, the first Technology Committee, and the first Diversity Committee.
Dr. Marilyn Jaffe-Ruiz was the President of AHRC NYC Home Care Services Inc. and the President of ACCESS Community Health Center, (formerly AHRC Healthcare Inc.,) until June 2015. She was an active member of the NYSARC Board of Governors from 1997 to 2012, serving as the Chair of the NYSARC Prevention Committee and as a member of the Adult Services Committee. Additionally, while on the Board of Governors, Marilyn initiated many excellent workshops related to siblings of people with developmental disabilities, as well as educational sessions regarding issues associated with aging.
Outside of her volunteer activities, Dr. Jaffe-Ruiz is Professor Emerita of Nursing at the Lienhard School of Nursing at Pace University. Dr. Marilyn Jaffe-Ruiz is committed, not only to the dignity of the people we support but also to the volunteers and staff who have devoted their lives and careers to making our world a better place to live.
