AHRC New York City

Advocating for people with intellectual, developmental, and other disabilities to lead full and equitable lives.

AHRC NYC operates five preschools for students ages 3 to 5, and three schools for students ages 5 to 22.

Our Schools & Locations

We serve students with developmental delays for the entirety of their educational and school-age years, with the fundamental goal for all students being to prepare them to live the most productive, worthwhile, and independent lives possible in the community.

Preschool Programs

AHRC NYC operates five preschools for students ages 3 to 5, built upon the belief that children with developmental delays have the same needs as all children, and that parents and families are the most important people in the lives of their children. AHRC NYC offers some classes for children without disabilities:

Our preschool classrooms feature Special Education Classes for preschoolers with a disability and ABA Rooms for children on the autism spectrum. Our preschool students have access to related services to address their individual needs as recommended by the Committee on Preschool Education (CPSE), including: Speech/Language Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, Nursing, & Psychological Services, and Counseling.

All of AHRC NYC’s preschools are designed for preschool children who have or are suspected of having a disability pursuant to Section 4410 of Article 89 of the Education Law. Specific services provided by these schools are based upon individual child needs which have been determined by the CPSE of the child’s local school district. The school district is ultimately responsible for determining the location where special education services, if necessary, will be provided.

AHRC NYC’s school-age programs provide educational services in highly-structured, supportive settings. Our well-trained staff understands the strategies and techniques necessary to successfully instruct students with a specific set of strengths and deficits.
