The National Council of SourceAmerica Employers has selected AHRC New York City‘s Assistant Executive Director, Steve Towler as the 2014 recipient of the East Region Management Excellence Award!  The SourceAmerica National Training and Achievement Conference provides professionals who are dedicated to creating jobs for people with disabilities, to come together to learn best practices and to connect with colleagues.

Steve has been promoting and creating employment for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities since 1986.  In his role as the Director of AHRC NYC’s Employment and Business Services department, he has had the opportunity to develop a top-notch employment service program for individuals with disabilities and at-risk New York City youth.  As a result, the agency helps over 1,600 individuals and provides over 500 new employment opportunities on an annual basis.

Employment opportunities for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities is a major focus for our organization.  For over 27 years, Steve has worked tirelessly with the business community, not-for-profits, government entities, and many other partnerships to create sustainable employment for people with disabilities.  Under Steve’s leadership, AHRC NYC’s Supported Employment program, well-recognized for its high-quality services, has helped nearly 10,000 people with disabilities prepare, obtain, and maintain employment.

Through the participation and support of the Ability One Program and the NYS Preferred Source Program, Steve has created two affirmative businesses: SHREDability, a secure document destruction business, and Hudson River Services, a Janitorial/Custodial business which provides quality employment opportunities for over 300 individuals with disabilities.
