AHRC NYC’s Camping and Recreational Services’ Outdoor Adventure Club enjoyed its first camping trip at Floyd Bennett Field in Brooklyn. The trip was greatly successful, if not a wet one! Joe Antcliff and Emily HirstRecreation Supervisors, took 10 individuals on an overnight camping trip, including Declan BoyerFrank CostanzDarien FeldmanJermaine HawkinsIsaiah HendersonSteven LakhterDaniel Schubert, and Michael Sparacino.

Experience with camping among the group members was varied, with some having a lot of skills and others going for the first time. Some of the team shared their experience and helped the leaders teach some of the skills needed to be successful in the great outdoors.

We spent the weekend teaching everyone how to put up a tent, where to put up a tent, how to keep warm and dry, how to prep and cook a meal using a camp stove, how to build a campfire safety, put up a shelter, tying several different types of knots, and much more. There was also time for some play, including having s’mores, telling ghost stories by the fire, playing football, and exploring the local area.

It was a great weekend. Thank you to the AMC Youth Opportunities Program for lending the camping gear!
