To support guardianship and recreational opportunities for people with disabilities in New York City.

New York, NY – 02/27/2024– AHRC New York City a not-for-profit organization supporting people with disabilities in New York City, has been awarded $17,000 in grants from the Trustee Management Board of NYSARC Trust Services to support AHRC New York City’s guardianship and recreation programs.

NYSARC Trust Services administers supplemental needs trusts (SNT) and pooled trusts that can make dramatic improvements to the lives of people with disabilities by enabling individuals to maintain financial eligibility for Medicaid and other means-tested government benefit programs. For 2023, NYSARC Trust Services is proud to fulfill its commitment to enhancing the lives of people with disabilities by awarding a total of $2,697,980 to The Arc New York Chapters statewide.

NYSARC Trust Services awarded AHRC New York City, $17,000 to support a variety of recreational opportunities and enrich the lives of more than 250 individuals.  AHRC New York City used the grant funds to purchase much needed program supplies for the Saturday Bronx Teens and Young Adult program.  We have used this funding to offer several experiences to the teens Sunday program, City Teens, including bowling and an opportunity to experience Cirque du Soleil.  Additionally, we were able to get annual memberships of the New York City Bronx Zoo, which would save money for future trips.  We also purchased 10 drama sessions for our Brooklyn Saturday Teens, a partnership with Epic Players (www.epicplayers.org).

Due to the pandemic and the loss of funding, AHRC New York City have paused our dances. The NYSARC grant has allowed us to host a valentine’s day dance attended by over one-hundred guests.  Attendees were thrilled and had wonderful experiences, an event that was dear to each attendee.
