Where would AHRC New York City be without its committed compliance professionals? These dedicated workers ensure that the agency is properly adhering to federal, state, local, and internal regulations and allow the agency to adhere to its mission of providing access to high-quality coordinated services and getting fully funded for it.

“We work with personnel in each school to make sure we are in compliance,” said the Educational Services compliance team, made up of Louise MarchiniMaureen HarrisonLisa Torres, and Maureen Pincus. “If we don’t follow the rules, our schools can be shut down, so what we do is important work.”

To thank these hard-working staff members for their years of service and continued excellence, a luncheon was held at AHRC NYC Headquarters on Friday, November 2nd. The gathering directly preceded the start of Corporate Compliance and Ethics Week, which runs from November 4th through November 10th.

Essential Staff

The luncheon was organized by Marie CavalloChief Compliance Officer. Marie said she wanted to honor compliance staff from all departments and highlight their work, which is so often done behind the scenes.

“I’m here to thank you for what some people think is a thankless task,” Marco DamianiCEO, said. “The big picture is that you are an essential component of ensuring that we are responsible in how we use our money and responsible in ensuring that our mission is upheld.

Marco said that compliance staff help keep external challenges at bay, which by nature are much harder to control and prepare for than internal factors. By limiting the outside pressures on the organization, AHRC NYC leadership and staff members can focus on the most important goal—providing the people we support with the best possible services and supports and allowing them to lead independent and full lives.

I want to do whatever I can to not only put your job in context but to support your job in context,” Marco continued. “You are absolutely essential to our mission, you are absolutely essential to us being successful, and you are really the leading edge of our risk management program.
