Program Philosophy and Goals

As a family-founded organization, families are a guiding force in fulfilling AHRC New York City’s mission. A testament to this is that more than two-thirds of the members of our Board of Directors are parents, siblings, and other family members of individuals with developmental disabilities.

The Hope Continuum for Children with Autism Spectrum Disorders

HOPE is an acronym that represents AHRC New York City’s mission regarding the education of children with autism, program guidelines for best practice, and the philosophy of Applied Behavioral Analysis (ABA). AHRC NYC endorses an ABA approach that encourages incidental learning and spontaneity, educating the “whole child” and taking into account each child’s prior experience, temperament, frustration level, and support needs when planning his or her education program.
