On September 19th, AHRC NYC celebrated the opening of its newest program for adults located in Jamacia. Our innovative Jamaica Day Program supports people with intellectual and developmental disabilities in their communities by empowering them to thrive where they live, fostering a sense of belonging, and building meaningful connections.

Guests at the celebration included people supported at the program and their families; community partners that work with individuals supported in the program; OPWDD’s Megan O’Connor, Deputy Commissioner of Division of Quality Improvement, and Eric Whang; Christina Bishara, AHRC NYC’s Vice President of Design, our in-house architect who designed the space along with our ADS staff (in particular Heather Gazzaley, VP of Day and Employment Services and Bergie Cabral, Regional Director of Queens); Christopher Bargagi of Vassalotti architects; and Chris Marangoudakis of the Emcon Group, our contractors.
Queens legislators attended and spoke. They included Senator Leroy Comrie Senate District 14, Assembly Member Alicia Hyndman – Assembly District 29, Senator John Liu – Senate District 16 , Assembly Member Edward Braunstein – Assembly Member 26, and Assembly Member David Weprin – District 24.

The Jamaica day program continues a long history of Day Services provided in Queens, including the Cyril Weinberg Day Program, formerly in Long Island City, and the Joseph T. Weingold Day Program now located in Elmhurst. We are proud to continue our legacy of providing quality, person-centered services to people and families living in New York City’s largest and most diverse borough.
