We operate two residences for aging individuals who require full-time nursing oversight:
- Bloomberg Apartments (in Jamaica, Queens)
- Dickson-Goodman Apartments (in Harlem, Manhattan)
24 individuals live in each of these two residences. Each residence is comprised of 4 separate units, each with its own bedrooms, living room and dining area, restrooms, and unique décor. Each unit is shared by 6 residents. The support staff is comprised of nurse practitioners and supervising registered nurses, who are on-site 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Residents also have access to speech, physical, and occupational therapies as needed, as well as a day habilitation program operated within the residence.

About Our Residential Staff
Our diverse staff strives to attain service excellence and creativity. We believe in providing our staff with continuous opportunities to learn and grow professionally.
To ensure the quality of our employees, all prospective residential staff go through an intense screening process. Once hired, all employees must pass a training program designed to assist them in addressing the unique needs of the residents with whom they will work in AHRC NYC homes. This training goes above and beyond that traditionally provided to human service workers.
Initial training includes information on:
- Human development
- Person-centered planning
- CPR
- Behavioral mental health
- Detecting signs and symptoms of illness
…and many other areas.
For staff working with aging people, ongoing training includes information about:
- Medical problems associated with aging
- Alzheimer’s disease
- Dementia
- Diabetic care
…and other areas that become important as a person ages. Training is designed to prepare staff to work with people with developmental disabilities and mental health disorders, autism spectrum disorders, and medically-related health concerns. Each of these categories is supported within AHRC NYC residences.
Handling someone’s unique needs can be a challenging and rewarding opportunity. The staff works together as a team that includes direct care workers, managers, house nurse, primary care physicians, and other professionals involved in an individual’s care.
