The following is a message from Raymond Ferrigno, President of AHRC New York City’s Board of Directors.
As you know, former board member Marilyn Jaffe-Ruiz passed away last week after a long battle with cancer. Marilyn was deeply committed to AHRC New York City and those of us who have been privileged to sit at the board table and serve on committees with her can bear witness to the enduring initiatives she brought to the organization.
In looking through archives of AHRC NYC the following quote from Marilyn surfaced:
“…that finding my voice as an early scholar in the area of prejudice, ethnocentrism and its effect on social justice and how it impacts those we support, and most notably, providing support and love for my family and friends, especially my brother Joel, and my husband Victor, are the accomplishments of which I am most proud.”
Marilyn Jaffe-Ruiz left an indelible mark on AHRC NYC and is a role model for each of us in our work as directors. In addition to AHRC NYC Marilyn was dedicated to the profession of nursing and her work at Pace University. Pace University is planning a memorial service for Marilyn, and we have reached out to Pace offering our partnership in that service, as details unfold, we will keep you informed.
I have attached here a brief history of Marilyn’s work with AHRC NYC.
Best, Raymond Ferrigno
