AHRC New York City

Advocating for people with intellectual, developmental, and other disabilities to lead full and equitable lives.

Breaking down barriers and building connections for a stronger, healthier community.

This service is available in all boroughs of New York City.

The AHRC NYC Recovery Supports and Wellness Services offers drug and alcohol prevention, education and referral/intensive case management services through the PEIR and Cross System Care Collaboration programs for individuals with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities (I/DD) and/or traumatic brain injury (TBI). The program is currently available to residents of Brooklyn, Queens, Bronx, Manhattan and Staten Island.

Prevention, Education, Information, and Referral

The AHRC NYC PEIR (Prevention, Education, Information, and Referral) Program provides no cost evidence-based practice group drug and alcohol prevention education to individuals with intellectual and other developmental disabilities, mental health issues and substance use disorders through a grant funded by OASAS and the NYC DOHMH. The PEIR program delivers services to AHRC NYC programs and community-based organizations throughout NYC, provides training on drug and alcohol awareness, problem gambling, stress management and the use of the creative arts to engage individuals in various clinical settings. PEIR provides referrals as needed to non-intensive outpatient substance use disorders programs and technical assistance to human service professionals on how to effectively work with individuals with I/DD that have co-occurring substance use disorders.
