Advocating for people with intellectual, developmental, and other disabilities to lead full and equitable lives.

Our clinic provides a comprehensive array of evaluation services to assess and assist in determining needs for individuals with developmental disabilities.

Services are offered in a Clinical Setting at our Main Office or satellite clinics throughout the five boroughs. Services are available in all boroughs of New York City.

Psychological Assessment

The nature and extent of a person’s developmental disability is determined through psychological assessment which includes a comprehensive assessment of the individual’s cognitive and adaptive skills. When indicated, additional assessment of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is also conducted. Such testing is often necessary to help determine whether a person may be eligible for services through OPWDD or for admission to a specific program.

Psychosocial Evaluation

A psychosocial evaluation is performed to develop a better understanding of a person within the context of their family and his/her social environment. This type of evaluation usually involves the professionals meeting with the individual and his/her family to obtain information about the person’s development, family background, medical and psychiatric history, vocational history, and educational history. Such evaluations are often necessary in applying for services from OPWDD or for admission to a specific program.

Sexuality Assessment

Sexuality assessments are completed to determine an individual’s knowledge of human growth and development, sexual behavior and feelings, and judgment and problem solving within intimate relationships. Sexuality assessment provides information which helps the Interdisciplinary Team determine the individual’s ability to consent to sexual relationships.

Additional Assessments

Licensed psychologists conduct Guardianship Assessments to determine an individual’s ability to make important decisions (e.g., medical, legal, and financial decisions) in their lives independently. These assessments determine the individual’s need for a legal guardian.

Licensed psychologists also complete Competency Evaluations when the people we support are seeking exemption from the English and/or civics requirement to become a U.S. citizen. The goal of this assessment is to determine an individual’s ability to understand the English language as well as his or her knowledge and understanding of fundamentals of history, principles, and form of government in the United States.

Licensed psychologists also conduct Capacity Assessments to determine an individual’s decision-making ability when it comes to undergoing medical procedures.
