Do you have a brother or sister with Developmental Disabilities?
If so, you may be eligible for the 11th Annual "Helen & Jack Gorelick
Sibling Scholarship." Two awards will be given in the amount
of $1000.00 each. For more information, please download the
application form and the eligibility requirements (pdf).
Submission deadline for application is March 17, 2008. Final
applicants will be interviewed in April. You must be
interviewed to qualify. The
award will be given at the Annual Meeting on June 11, 2008. (Previous
winners are eligible. AHRC Board of Directors, Sibling
Committee Members, Executive Staff and their relatives are not
eligible.) |

The brothers and sisters of people
with developmental disabilities can often benefit from professional
assistance and peer support. AHRC is unique in the wide range
of services that it offers to siblings, both children and adults. AHRC offers individual,
group and family counseling for child, adolescent, and adult
siblings.

Meet quarterly at 83 Maiden Lane on the
5th Floor. The groups are held on three
consecutive Saturdays from 11:00 am - 3:00 pm. Parents are
asked to check the schedule before coming to the group each week as
holidays may result in date changes. Lunch and snacks will be
served. Please be sure to call if you will not be able to
attend the group on any particular day. Please check

The purpose of this group is to
provide an opportunity for expression and be heard in a
non-threatening environment and to have an opportunity to
appreciate shared experiences. Group therapy will be held on
the 2nd Tuesday of every month,
from 6:30 - 8 pm and will meet at 83 Maiden Lane on the 5th

This peer support group, the longest continuously running one of
its kind in the country meets monthly at a Manhattan local restaurant. This is a sibling run group
that discusses books related to sibling issues and experiences.

This monthly update keeps members informed of group discussions and
upcoming events, meetings and programs.

This includes individual, couple, group and family counseling
services regarding sibling related issues.

Archive Library: A variety of information related to
sibling needs including bibliographies for children and adults,
articles, curriculum guides and information for parents are
available.

The Sibling Information Bulletin, a publication of the Sibling
Committee of the AHRC Board of Directors, is published periodically

Many AHRC Sibling Services are offered
at sites throughout the five boroughs of New York City. Some,
however, are provided only at 83 Maiden Lane in Manhattan.

Sibling services can be made available
to brothers and sisters of individuals with developmental
disabilities, regardless of whether their disabled sibling receives
services at AHRC. |
|
|

Various counseling services for
siblings, including individual, group and family counseling, are
covered by Medicaid and/or Medicare or other forms of insurance.
However, many of the sibling events occurring during the year are
provided free of charge or at a minimum fee.
|
|
|

Children must be registered in advance
for Sibshops. Adult siblings may receive information about
upcoming events and scheduled meetings by placing their names on the
mailing list. To register or to obtain information about
